Our Staff
The ORCS staff brings a passion for teaching and over 280 collective years of primary education experience to the classroom every day. They are dedicated to serving your children and working with you to make sure your student is learning and growing.
All teachers and assistants are CPR certified.
Erin Selvig
School Director
Erin has been with ORCS since 2010 and has over 13 years experience in Early Childhood Education. She has a CDA (Child Development Associates Credential), and is currently working on a degree in Human Development-Early Childhood Education from Washington State University. Erin graduated from Eastside Catholic High School and currently lives in Woodinville with her husband and their two boys, ages 1 and 4. In her spare time Erin enjoys the outdoors, walking, hiking, cooking, crafts and reading.
Cheryl Masters
ORCS Bookkeeper
Cheryl has been with ORCS since 2000. She was raised in Bellevue, Washington, graduated from Eastside Catholic High School and took classes at Western Washington University. She is married and has two children. She enjoys reading, camping, antiquing and visiting Dixie, Idaho.
Jan Barnhart
Secretary
Jan has been with ORCS since 1988. She was raised in Wenatchee, Washington and attended Deaconess School of Nursing. She is married and has two children. She enjoys reading mysteries and cookbooks, knit & crocheting, gardening, country music and being with her grandchildren.
Karen LaBarge-King
Office Assistant
Karen has been with ORCS since 1999. She was raised in Woodland Hills, California and received a B.S. degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a M.S. degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Washington. She is married and has two children. She enjoys quilting, traveling, family activities and music (especially when played by her kids!).
Linda Overland
Teacher Early Preschool
Linda has been with ORCS since 1987. She was raised in Spokane and received her B.A. degree in Education from Eastern Washington University. She is married and has three children. She previously taught for 10 years in the Northshore School District. She enjoys reading, traveling, vanilla lattes and flowers.
Sue Rosebrook
Teaching Assistant Early Preschool
Sue has been with ORCS since 2000. She was raised in Duluth, Minnesota and graduated from Denfield High School. She is married and has two children. She has always been active in Children’s Ministry programs at her church and enjoys dried flower arranging, crafts, shopping, collecting flamingoes and her grandchildren.
Sue Hagan
Teacher Preschool
Sue has been with ORCS since 1999. She was raised in Napa, California and received a B.S. degree from California State University, Sacramento. She is married and has two children. She previously taught preschool in California. She enjoys traveling, cooking, running, reading and family activities.
Susan Kattenhorn
Teaching Assistant Preschool
Susan has been with ORCS since 1992. She was raised in Sacramento, California and received a B.A. in Geography and Urban Planning from Sacramento State University and completed some graduate level courses. She is married and has two children. She enjoys cookbooks, cats, shopping, Mexican food and travel.
Deb Marpert
Teacher Pre School & Teaching Assistant Pre K
Deb has been at ORCS since 1999. She was raised in Southern California and received a B.A. in Urban Geography from Trinity Western University in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is married and has two children. She enjoys sewing, quilting, cooking, reading, gardening and classic movies.
Heather Bornemeier
Teacher Pre K
Heather has been at ORCS since 2010. She was raised in Port Townsend, WA and received her BA in Education from Central Washington University. She is married and has three wonderful children. She enjoys jogging, cooking/eating, reading, shopping, and hanging out with family and friends.
Jane Christie
Teacher Pre K
Jane has been with ORCS since 1998. She was raised in Mount Vernon, Washington and received a B.A. degree in Psychology and an Elementary Teaching Certificate from the University of Washington. She is married and has three children. She enjoys gardening, reading and quilting.
Bonnie Schwindt
Teacher Pre K and Teaching Assistant K
Bonnie has been with ORCS since 1997. She was raised in Woodinville, Washington and earned an A.A. degree from Edmonds Community College. She is married and has two children. She enjoys shopping, crafts, sewing and family activities.
Julie Marovich
Teaching Assistant Pre K
Julie has been with ORCS since 1995. She was raised in Kirkland, Washington and graduated from Juanita High School and Bellevue Beauty School. She is married and has two children. She enjoys music, dancing, camping and family activities – especially with her twin sister!
Stacey Chapman Pontiff
Teaching Assistant Preschool & Lunch Buddy
Stacey joined the ORCS staff as a Lunchbunch Teacher in 2008. A native of Vancouver, BC she now lives in Kirkland with her husband and three daughters, one of which is currently enrolled at ORCS. She likes to be involved in her local community, volunteering at church, on the PTSA Board and is a Girl Scout leader. The best part of her day is reading and crafting with her girls.
Kari McGoorty
Teacher K
Kari joined the ORCS staff as the Kindergarten teacher in 2010. She was born and raised in Kirkland and graduated from Western Washington University. Her teaching experience includes Kindergarten through 6th grade teaching in southern California, Lake Stevens and for 20 years in the Lake Washington School district. Kari loves reading, working with youth at her church, and keeping up with family activities. She resides a short walk from ORCS with her husband and 3 teenaged sons.
Debbie Laughlin
Teaching Assistant Early Preschool
Debbie joined the ORCS staff as the Early Preschool Assistant in 2011. She was born and raised in Kirkland and graduated from Washington State University with a BA in Education. Her teaching experience has been a classroom teacher all over Wahington and idaho. Debbie loves being with her family. They love the Oregon Coast and Great Grandma's farm in Idaho.
